…The birds are singing, the sap is rising - and to thoughts of love, the mind of man is turned…
In Younger than Springtime we present a ‘feel-good’ programme of songs and music to entertain and appeal to all generations, and to celebrate the arrival of spring. It’s a lovely medley of music with a bit of everything, from madrigals and musicals to jazz and pop. EFC is proud of its versatility, showcased here with small ensembles and soloists from the choir interspersed among the full choir numbers.
With lyrics by Shakespeare, Lennon & McCartney and many others, set to music by a whole range of composers - Carl Orff, George Shearing and Bob Chilcott among them - there really is something for everyone in this light-hearted programme of songs to lift the spirit. There’s a ‘world première’ as well - a medley of numbers from South Pacific specially arranged for us by Bernard Wight.
Peter Adcock, our brilliant accompanist, will be in charge at the keyboard, with Nigel Perrin on the conductor’s podium, no doubt re-living - in certain numbers - his early years as top voice of the King’s Singers.
Do come along and join us on Sunday 15 March at the Barnfield, Exeter’s great little theatre in Barnfield Road. Please note that the concert starts at the rather earlier than usual time of 6.00 pm to accommodate younger audience members. And there’s a full bar and café service before the concert and during the interval.
