October 2000: Elgar Choral Festival The Elgar Choral Festival Worcester Cathedral, October 2000 The choir came first in its class, and second overall. Chorus Hits a High Source: Exeter Express & Echo, November 2000 "Exeter Festival Chorus is the best in its class - and it's official! The group hit the high note when it won best in its class and second overall at the Elgar Choral Festival. It was the first time that the chorus has entered the competition, which is organised by the Elgar Foundation every three years to celebrate amateur choral singing. EFC conductor Nigel Perrin said 'It was very thrilling to pull off such a success at the first attempt and a just reward for the sense of commitment the choir has now. It's establishing the highest possible standards'." Adjudicator's remarks Elgar, Lux Aeterna "A sensitive and moving performance, with beautifully shaped phrases. It was expressive and you communicated to your audience your complete involvement in this lovely music. Blend and balance were both commendable, as was the well-graded final diminuendo to end the piece." Britten, Rejoice In The Lamb "...meticulous attention to all of the composer's marks of expression... it was a distinguished performance... with admirable choral technique."
