October 2011: Eternal Voices at Coventry This was a repeat of the magnificent event which was held with the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines in Exeter Cathedral in November 2010. Our visit to Coventry Cathedral saw us perform Eternal Voices with a different Royal Marines band (from Scotland) and with the Coventry-based choir, St Michael’s Singers. Both the composer (Adam Gorb) and the librettist (Ben Kaye) were present and they seemed very pleased with our performance. The audience was most appreciative and it was a privilege to be able to provide further support for the Royal Marines' charities. EFC sang Vaughan-Williams’ Valiant for Truth as a solo item; this was one of only two a cappella items in the concert, and the ringing echoes of the chords were in great contrast to the full sound of choirs and band. For those of us travelling up from Exeter and back again on the coach it was a long day - over 18 hours in some cases - but well worth it!
